Orthodontic Directory of the World "since 1918"
The late Dr. William C. Fisher originally published the Orthodontic Directory of the World in 1918. Successive editors were Dr. Claude R. Wood, Dr. Oren A. Oliver (1942), Dr. William H. Oliver (1957). Today the Senior Editor is Gray Oliver Thornburg, Editor is Wanda Witherspoon, Associate Editor is Kathy Oliver Jones and Senior Consulting Editor is Dr. DeWayne B. McCamish.
Since 1946 every effort has been made to contact universities and verify the orthodontic training for each and every orthodontist claiming educational diploma. There are at least five universities that do not have complete and accurate records of their orthodontic graduates prior to 1930; therefore, some errors are still present in the Directory. We have documentation from all other American and Canadian universities verifying claims of orthodontic training as well as membership in the American Association of Orthodontics.
Correspondents and Consulting Editors, representing component societies, are all members in good standing of the American Association of Orthodontists. Most of the Correspondents and Consulting Editors have been either a major officer in their component societies or the American Association and several have been presidents of both organizations, assuring for the best possible references of published information.
